Description

Boston Tea Party Tea Sampler, 6 Assorted Loose Leaf Tea Sampler, All The Historical Teas Thrown Over During The Boston Tea Party

We put together this loose tea sampler as a passion project due to our deep interests in both history and tea.

Included in this tea sampler are 6 types of tea, all of which are examples of the exact types of teas thrown over and destroyed during the Boston Tea Party. Some of which are so near exact, that should you have drank them then, and drank them now, the differences wouldn't be noticeable.

Included in this loose tea sampler, are the following loose leaf teas:

Bohea Black Tea- Bohea (boo-hee) originally came from the Fujian Province in China an area which is often claimed to be one of the first locations to export tea.

Oolong (Bohea)- Oolong is a lightly oxidized tea with a gentle body and softer taste. In todays knowledge, Oolong is a type of tea that is not necessarily black nor green.

Congou Black Tea- Congou was one of the truly high quality black teas to be exported out of China. Congou is actually pronounced as "kung fu" and translates to english as "made with great skill".

Souchong- Otherwise know as Lapsang Souchong, this is the closest to original tea we have included in the sampler. We source this tea from the same regions and plantations as the East India Company did in 1773.

Singlo- Singlo accounted for the second largest amount of tea destroyed that day. Singlo is a higher end green tea that is very much like the standard daily drinker green teas today.

Hyson- Hyson was the other green tea included on this fateful shipment of tea to the colonies. Believe it or not, green tea accounted for 20% or so of the volume of tea on the shipment, and made up around 30% of the value of the loss.

Note re tea tins: each tin measures 2.6 wide by 2 inches tall and holds 4oz volume tea [volume not weight].

Description

Colonial Bohea- 3oz Loose Tea in Signature Tea Tin. Description: Bohea tea, (pronounced "Boo-hee" - Ukers 510), was by far the largest tea import during colonial times. Sometimes called Bohea Souchong or Lapsang Bohea, the blend originated in China with trade to the British and Dutch East India Companies. It was so popular that the word bohea became the slang term for tea. The blend varied wildly, consisting of broken orange pekoe, pekoe, and souchong dumped in a pile and then sifted, typically the scrap tea of lower quality leaves, but was considered high quality by the colonists. Notes: Smoky, winey, warm. Lighter smoky flavor than lapsang souchong. History: In the Boston Tea Party, 1586 chests of Bohea were destroyed. Source: Oliver Pluff & Co. offers the historical black tea bohea blend. Originally from the Wuyi Mountains in Fujian, China, the name Bohea is the same as the name Wuyi (). The modern tea market offers tea from the Bohea (Wuyi) region, as well as the historical black tea blend version. Size/Weight: 3oz loose tea, sealed in matte black signature tea tin.
